Join us at the Poverty & the Arts Studio + Gallery for 2 days of Community Sewing Bees!
Nashville is joining cities around the country to create one of 84 specially designed quilts for a national project called “Then a Cunning Voice and a Night We Spend Gazing at the Stars.”
This multi-year project brings people together at Sewing Bees to answer questions about their city:
“What do you want for your well-being? For your family and your friends? Your neighborhood? Your city, town, or reserve?”
The responses generate joy, reflection, and responsibility:
“I want my city to love itself more.”
“The Mayor of Richfield wants free mental health clinics.”
Someone writes, “A full happy life for our son.”
These intention statements will be gathered and sewn together to create Nashville’s contribution to this cross-country project—a single quilt that will become just a small part of a 4,000-square foot creation.
Please join us. ALL ARE WELCOME! NO EXPERIENCE NECESSARY!
“Then a Cunning Voice and a Night We Spend Gazing at Stars” was created by Emily Johnson/Catalyst, a dance company based in Minneapolis and New York City. Textile design is by Maggie Thompson.
